The default that sets the trapEvery new WAF policy in the Azure portal defaults to Detection mode. This is intentional. Microsoft’s guidance says start in Detection mode, observe real traffic, tune out false positives, then switch to Prevention. That’s sound advice for initial deployment. The problem is what happens after.
